Different bacterial strains have different characteristics and functions. They may also interact or compete with one another for nourishment and living space, making the gut microbiome a highly complex ecosystem. The identity, compatibility and formulation of the strains can therefore be more meaningful than the total number displayed on the label.

G-NiiB Skin deliberately combines three selected strains — Lactobacillus salivarius, Bifidobacterium breve and Bifidobacterium bifidum — as part of the SIM05 formula.

In a double-blind human study, researchers compared two billion microencapsulated CFU with ten billion CFU of the same bacteria in an uncoated form. Analysis of participants’ faecal samples showed comparable intestinal colonisation, despite the microencapsulated bacteria being given at only one-fifth of the uncoated dose.⁵ ⁶

This demonstrated that effective delivery can matter more than simply displaying a larger CFU number. Applying this five-to-one principle, the three billion microencapsulated CFU in each G-NiiB Skin sachet are designed to provide colonisation performance comparable with a much larger dose of uncoated bacteria — without relying on an inflated headline count.

Each live friendly bacterium in G-NiiB Skin is surrounded by an ultra-fine, multilayer lipid shield. In the dry sachet, the bacteria remain protected in a dormant, stable state rather than becoming active prematurely.

After the powder is consumed, this lipid shield helps protect the bacteria as they pass through the stomach and upper digestive tract, where unprotected bacteria may be exposed to gastric acid, pancreatic fluids and bile salts.

As the bacteria move into the intestine and the digestive environment changes, the protective layers gradually disperse, allowing the bacteria to be released alive where they can begin to colonise.⁵ ⁶

Laboratory testing of the microencapsulation technology demonstrated over 250% improved survival compared with non-encapsulated bacteria. In the 21-day human study by Del Piano and colleagues, participants receiving two billion microencapsulated CFU showed intestinal colonisation comparable with those receiving ten billion CFU of the same bacteria without microencapsulation. The researchers assessed colonisation by analysing participants’ faecal samples during the study.⁵ ⁶
